Install Ex Inferis with the launcher

Install the launcher

1. Download the complete archive offered above.
2. Create a dedicated launcher folder wherever you prefer.
3. Extract the ZIP; it contains ExInferisLauncher.exe.
4. Do not run the executable directly from inside the ZIP archive.
5. Open ExInferisLauncher.exe from the extracted folder.
6. If Windows displays a warning, confirm that the file came from the official website before continuing. This alpha build is not yet digitally signed.

First launch

Before downloading the game, the setup assistant asks you to:

1. explicitly choose French or English;
2. confirm a dedicated installation folder, or choose a different one;
3. voluntarily open the terms of use and accept them before continuing.

How the launcher works

• At startup, it compares the installed version with the latest available release.
• Check manually checks again for an update.
• Install or Update downloads the full game and displays its progress.
• The downloaded file is checked against its exact size and SHA-256 hash before installation. The launcher also checks that enough disk space is available.
• The new version is extracted and validated separately. The previous version is removed only after successful activation and can be restored if the operation is interrupted.
• Play opens the installed version. It remains available offline when a valid installation is already present.
• Changelog opens the website’s release notes and Open logs displays diagnostic files when needed.

Folders used by the launcher

Under the installation root selected during setup, you will find:

Game

The active game, including Ex Inferis.exe.

Game.previous

A temporary recovery copy during an update.

Downloads

The archive while it is downloaded or verified.

Staging

The new release extracted before activation.

Logs

Dated launcher logs for troubleshooting.

Where are character saves stored?

Save files are not stored with the launcher or inside the Game folder. Windows stores them in:

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\FIXN Game Studio\Ex Inferis

Press Windows + R, paste the path above, and press Enter to open it. The Characters folder contains one subfolder per character, including the character sheet and dungeon history. settings.json stores settings, while DungeonSeeds contains saved dungeon seeds.

Back up or restore your characters

Create a backup

1. Close Ex Inferis completely.
2. Open the save location shown above.
3. Copy the entire Ex Inferis folder to a safe location and give the copy a dated name.

Copying only Characters is enough for character progress, but copying the complete folder also protects settings and related data.

Restore a backup

1. Close the game.
2. Keep a copy of the current folder first, in case of a mistake.
3. Put your backup back in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\FIXN Game Studio\Ex Inferis, then start the game again.

Uninstall Ex Inferis

The launcher is portable and does not add an entry to Windows’ list of installed applications. To uninstall:

1. Close both the game and launcher.
2. Back up your characters if you want to keep them.
3. Delete the folder where you extracted the launcher.
4. Delete the installation root chosen during setup. By default: %LOCALAPPDATA%\FIXN Game Studio\Ex Inferis.
5. If you selected another installation root, also remove the launcher preferences from %LOCALAPPDATA%\FIXN Game Studio\Ex Inferis\Launcher.
6. To remove all progress as well, delete %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\FIXN Game Studio\Ex Inferis.

Minimum requirements

Minimum requirements will be published after validation on a sufficiently broad selection of test computers.
